DETROIT, MI — EdTrust-Midwest is pleased to announce that Dr. Stacey Deering has joined the organization as its new manager of partnerships and engagement, bringing more than a decade of experience across public policy, higher education, advocacy, community engagement, and public education.

In her new role, Dr. Deering will lead partnership and engagement efforts connected to the Michigan Partnership for Equity & Opportunity (MPEO) and help strengthen EdTrust-Midwest’s relationships with advocates, community organizations, and partners across the state. Her work will focus on bringing together diverse leaders and organizations committed to advancing educational equity and opportunity for Michigan students and families.

“Stacey brings a deep understanding of Michigan’s communities and a strong track record of building partnerships that move important work forward,” said Brian L. Love, state director of EdTrust-Midwest. “Our partners and coalitions are essential to advancing meaningful change for Michigan students, and I’m excited to have Dr. Deering’s leadership as we strengthen those relationships, bring more voices into our work, and grow our collective impact across the state.”

Deering’s professional experience spans policy research, advocacy, community engagement, and coalition building. She has developed and facilitated policy education initiatives, built cross-sector partnerships, and worked to make complex public policy issues more accessible to communities and stakeholders. Most recently, she contributed to professional development and community engagement efforts with the Michigan Early Equity Alliance under Mothering Justice, supporting work focused on early childhood equity, advocacy, leadership development, and community capacity building.

“I’m thrilled to join EdTrust–Midwest and contribute to an organization with such a strong commitment to educational equity and community-centered change,” said Dr. Deering. “Michigan is home to an incredible network of advocates, families, educators, and community leaders who are already doing powerful work on behalf of students. I’m excited to build on those relationships, create new opportunities for collaboration, and help ensure the voices of communities across Michigan remain at the center of efforts to expand educational opportunity.”

Dr. Deering has also served as an educator and public speaker on issues including voting rights, civil rights, urban public policy, social justice, and civic engagement. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science with a concentration in Urban Politics from Wayne State University and a Master of Public Administration from Eastern Michigan University.
