This week, EdTrust-Midwest and members of the Michigan Partnership for Equity and Opportunity (MPEO) coalition joined together for our third annual Advocacy Day in Lansing. Together, we met with nearly two dozen legislators on both sides of the aisle to share strategies to close opportunity gaps for students. We shared with state leaders the need to prioritize Michigan’s vulnerable student groups as they develop the state school aid budget. Our recommendations include investing more for students from low-income backgrounds, multilingual learners and students with disabilities. And we urged policymakers to put systems in place for greater fiscal transparency and accountability to ensure dollars for students with the greatest needs reach them in their schools.
