EdTrust-Midwest in April hosted a delegation of Michigan leaders to join dozens of other equity advocates from around the country to meet with Michigan’s Congressional leaders as Congress considers new proposals for public education from the Trump administration. Leaders from the Michigan Partnership for Equity and Opportunity (MPEO) statewide coalition met with Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to urge them to protect funding for vulnerable student groups, including students from low-income backgrounds, multilingual learners and students with disabilities. We also discussed proposed federal cuts in post-secondary affordability and access programs that are essential to first-generation and low-income college students, as well as protecting the safety net for low-income families.
