Mission

Fierce advocates for the high academic achievement of all students – particularly those of color or living in poverty.

Student-Centered • Data-Driven • Equity-Focused

Our mission is to close the gaps in opportunity and achievement that disproportionately impact students who are the most underserved, with a particular focus on Black and Latino/a students and students from low-income backgrounds.

As a nonpartisan data-driven policy, research, advocacy, and technical assistance non-profit organization, we work alongside many partners at the state and local levels for the high academic achievement of all Michigan students in pre-kindergarten through college.

Our Core Beliefs

  •  We believe in the power of education to reinvent Michigan for the 21st century and to close the gaps that separate students who are underserved from other young Americans.
  •  Long-standing gaps in opportunity, achievement, and attainment have roots inside and outside of schools. And though we know these gaps are stubborn, we also know they are not inevitable.
  •  A strong education improves the lives of young people, is vital to sustaining our democracy, and strengthens America.
