Brian L. Love
State Director
Brian L. Love is the state director for EdTrust-Midwest. A fierce advocate for equity, he brings a strong record of public-sector leadership, coalition building, and community engagement to advance educational equity for Michigan students. Love leads EdTrust–Midwest’s policy and advocacy agenda focused on educational access and opportunity for all Michigan students, from early learning through higher education and into their careers, while strengthening partnerships, advancing evidence-based policy, and delivering equitable results statewide.
Before returning to lead EdTrust-Midwest, Love served as Director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, a role that further strengthened his experience leading complex, cross-sector systems and delivering results for Michigan communities. Love has a long track record in public service in Michigan, previously working for the Michigan legislature (House and Senate) for eight years in various roles before he later joined StudentsFirst Michigan in 2013 as their state outreach director and later as that team’s state director. Later, he joined the Greater Detroit Area Health Council as their public affairs and project management director. Love previously served as director of community engagement for EdTrust-Midwest, where he led community relations and partnership-building efforts across the state from pre-K through higher education.
Love’s many past leadership roles include serving as the chair of the Black Leadership Advisory Council Education Committee and a Whitmer appointee to the MI Veterans Trust Fund Board of Directors.
