Senior Director, Strategic Communications & External Relations

Jennifer Mrozowski has more than two decades of experience in Strategic Communications and Journalism, including non-profit and corporate expertise and is the director of communications at The Education Trust-Midwest.

As the Senior Director of Strategic Communications and External Relations, she manages communications, legislative affairs, community engagement and development, leading efforts across teams to ensure greater alignment, strategic focus and effectiveness.

Before coming to Ed Trust-Midwest, she served as the executive communications lead for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, where she developed and executed internal and external communications for the CEO, including media relations and social media.

Mrozowski is a passionate advocate for children and the need for a strong, equitable education system. She previously served as executive director of communications and deputy executive director of enrollment at Detroit Public Schools, where she led media and enrollment campaigns; supervised social media strategy; and coordinated parent, stakeholder and crisis communications.

Before her leadership roles in communications, she was an award-winning reporter, spending most of her career covering education. At The Detroit News, she was the beat reporter for Detroit Public Schools. She also served as an education reporter at the Cincinnati Enquirer, covering Ohio’s third-largest district, after working for the Times of Northwest Indiana and Auburn Citizen in New York.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Kalamazoo College; a master’s degree in strategic communications from Michigan State University; and achieved her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), an elite credential demonstrating mastery in strategic communications, as well as a graduate-level digital media certificate from MSU.
